What is SSI Pro Emergency First Response course?
The SSI Pro Emergency First Response course teaches you how to handle medical emergencies with confidence, both in and out of the water. You’ll learn primary care (CPR), secondary care (first aid), and essential life-saving techniques through a combination of theory and hands-on practice. This course is open to divers and non-divers alike, making it a valuable skill for anyone. Once certified, you’ll be prepared to respond quickly and effectively in case of accidents, ensuring greater safety for yourself and others.

What does the course entail?
- There is a theory section with knowledge reviews that you need to complete.
- The practical component is divided into two parts, primary and secondary care.
- In the primary care component, you will complete 8 skills. These include learning how to handle immediate life-threatening emergencies such as a non-breathing patient, and those with shock and spinal injuries. You will learn how to perform CPR and ‘rescue breaths’ to a non-breathing adult. You will also learn how to evaluate a scene for hazards and monitor a patient’s lifeline. These are all skills that increases an individuals chance of survival before emergency services arrive.
The secondary care section deals with conditions that are not life threatening. - The skills that you will learn here are aimed at helping to ease pain and reduce further injury. You will practice injury and illness assessments as well as bandaging and splinting.
- Upon completion of the course, you will be an emergency first responder.

The instructors at Merakabay provided thorough support to each guest. The weather in the Maldives changes rapidly, so guests don't know if they will be able to dive or not, but they let us know in advance, which was helpful.

We had an amazing time diving with Yakko and his team in Ukulhas! The staff was professional, friendly, and clearly passionate about the ocean, knowing it inside out. The dive sites around the island are absolutely stunning — we saw huge numbers of mantas, grey reef sharks, eagle rays, turtles, napoleons, octopi and much more.
The boat was spacious and well-equipped, and everything ran smoothly and on time. I especially appreciated the personal touch — they remembered our preferences and were very kind and quick in organising night dives as well. What truly stood out, though, was the outstanding level of hospitality. We really wanted to see tiger sharks, and Yakko went above and beyond to help us make it happen. He didn’t hesitate to call around and help us organize a dive in Malé, helping us with setting up transport and making sure everything went smoothly. Thanks to him, we got to experience the best of what the Maldives has to offer, both in Ukulhas and beyond.
